Mnemonic for A320 Flight control Protections

NOTE: DRAFT ,not yet fully Completed

By PALS

B - Bank Angle protection

max achievable bank angle +/

  • 67° in normal Flight envelope
  • 40° in High Speed Protection (prevent spiral Dive)
  • 45° in high AOA- Angle of Attack Protection

Y - Yaw  function change & not protection. turn coordination is lost in Abnormal law, but reactive yaw damping remains available

P - Pitch Protection +30/-15

Too high nose up - Very rapid Enegery loss
Too Low nose-down - very rapid enegery Gain

A - AOA angle of attach (Aerodynamic Protection)

enables PF to pull sidestick FULL aft in dangerous situation giving best possible Lift, protection minimizes risk of stall or control loss

  • Alpha Prot - AUTOPITCH trim Stop, aircraft will Sink to maintain current AOA
  • Max AOA- speedbrakes auto retraction , if extedned.

L - G Load

  •  2.5 G in clean configuration
  •  2.0g with flaps extended

CFIT - Load protection  enables immediate PF reaction without risk of overstressing aircraft , if sidestick continued to maintained Full Aft Stick, then AOA protecion takes over

S - Speed

  • HiSpeed  Protection (Helpfull during highspeed /steep dive Escape maneuvers) - Sidestick maintained full forward, aircraft will overshoot VMO/MMO without reaching VD/MD(Aircrafts Maximum Design Speed), at approx VMO +16/ MMO +0.04, pitch nose down authority is reduced to Zero

  •  Low Speed Protection - "SPEED SPEED SPEED" warning comes immediately before ALPHA FLOOR, warns crew aircraft energy drops below certain threshold , eg VLS-8 or VLS -2 depending upon FPA & aircraft decleration rate

Nice!!! XOXO Karlene
